In the mid-1990s, David left Savas Woodbury to pursue other interests and the organization assumed the name Savas Publishing Company.

The company continued its rapid expansion, however, and Savas continued bucking the trend and advice of the so-called "experts," who admonished him to improve profitability by slashing quality. Instead, Savas reached out to both well-known authors and often previously unpublished talent to produce some of the finest independent press books of the 1990s. Every title was crafted with care and included quality acid-free paper, superior printing and binding services, original cartography, and other important production and editorial elements.
